TOP TEN STEPS TO AN EFFECTIVE
SAFETY SYSTEM

Warehouse and loading dock incidents (sometimes called accidents) fit into various categories as defined in typical “Accident Causation Models”.
The models states that an injury or other type of financial loss to a firm is the result of an incident;
we offer the following
SAFETY POINTS to help you and your employees.
The incidents can be traced to gaps in the following:

10  Review the hiring process.  Ask prospective employees about their attitude
    towards safety.
9  Spend the first few days with a new hire, mentor and train them in the Standard
Operating Procedure and worksite hazard recognition.
8   Orient new hires to the company "Corporate Culture" and make them feel
    like part of the "Team."
7  When worksite conditions are found to be wrong or not working properly,
do not ignore them. Immediately correct them.
6  Develop and use in-house inspections to identify hazards and predictable
    causes of incidents.
5  Make safety a responsibility of every employee. Make safety performance a
part of the annual review process when determining raises or bonuses.
4  Hold supervisors and managers accountable for employee safety.
3  Clearly define in writing who has authority over safety, what kind of authority
and the authority to do what?
2  Define who is designated as responsible for safety and to what degree.
1  Develop, monitor and update a written management safety policy
   and stick to it.
Does Your Company Need Safety Training?

A recent study from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has shown the need to target safety training for younger workers. Inexperience and poor judgment skills place younger workers at risk for injury in the warehouse and the shop floor. If your training budget is limited, target the younger worker and then pair them up with more experienced workers.

We can expect someone to die in a forklift mishap within the next six months in Colorado. Make sure your operators are not "the one"! Be sure to see our information on forklift operator training.
