| EVALUATING YOUR SAFETY TRAINING |
|
Why is it that many supervisors hold few Safety Meetings and aren’t very happy with the safety meetings they do manage to have? To be frank, most safety training seems to fall short of the mark and more than a few supervisors will admit to not knowing why—or how to change the situation. OSHA regulations mandate that employees be trained before they begin performing many different kinds of on the job activities. Forklift training, Hazmat training, Crane, Hoist and Rigging training, even Conveyors and Dock equipment require training to one degree or another. The following questions should help you evaluate your companies training: ¨ Do you hold regular training sessions? ¨ How do you keep up to date on new safety regulations? ¨ Do you revise your training if your operations change? ¨ Have you or any other supervisors taken any Train the Trainer course to improve your training skills? ¨ Do you use “proven” training materials in your training presentations? ¨ Do you keep track of company accidents, incidents and near misses? ¨ How do you evaluate the results of training? ¨ Are your workers properly trained to adjust to change? |
